My Journey to Becoming a Sleep Consultant

My Parenting Journey

Hi, I am Nicole an Internationally Certified Infant and Toddler Sleep Consultant and mother of two.

My passion for sleep began following the birth of my first child. I remember feeling completely out of my depth when I was sent home from the hospital and in the weeks and months to follow, utterly exhausted.

My daughter suffered from colic and was often unsettled as a result. I was so sleep deprived, unsure how to settle her and struggling. I shared my exhaustion with people close to me who would usually respond with something along the lines of 'it's normal''it will pass' or 'sleep when the baby sleeps'. My daughter would only nap for 20 minutes and this was often on me so this advice was near impossible to follow.

When my daughter was 4 months old I was incredibly sleep deprived and my husband was working long hours. I didn't feel like I was thriving as a mum and I knew something had to change so I started doing my own research on sleep. I purchased several different sleep programs, read research articles and started to implement changes based on my daughters temperament and my parenting style.

Within 2 weeks my daughter went from catnapping in the day to napping 1.5 hours and overnight her sleep went from waking every 1.5-2 hours to sleeping 6+ hour stretches.

As I started to get more rest things completely changed for me and my family. I felt a lot happier and I was thinking clearer; I felt empowered and well rested and I became more present with my daughter. I noticed my daughter became a lot calmer and happier throughout the day also.

I shared how life changing this had been to family and friends but the more I talked about it the more I realised so many parents did not understand what sleep support really was and because of this, they were reluctant to get help.

Many parents were reluctant to seek help with their's and their child's sleep deprivation as they were uneducated on how gentle, responsive, intuitive and holistic correct sleep support is.

The more I saw parents suffering with exhaustion due to lack of knowledge and feeling that their sleep deprivation was a normal part of being a parent, the more determined I became to educate and help parents.

My Certification

I undertook study to complete my certification and during this time learnt

about the science of sleep, our biology and biological sleep needs, the

many different philosophies surrounding sleep and studied a multitude

of evidence based research papers all while working with volunteer

families to gain experience and implement my knowledge.

This extensive study and experience provided me with a unique

skill set and an in depth understanding of infant and toddler sleep.

My Business

It is my passion to provide you and your family with the tools and support to help your baby or toddler sleep in a responsive and holistic way.

I am determined to change the narrative around sleep support and to help sleep deprived families get good, restorative sleep and thrive in their parenting journey.

Sleep Support is not bad, the research is actually telling us it's incredibly necessary for development, attachment and physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.

In 2022 I started my company and by late 2023 the business had grown so much I resigned from my corporate role to continue to grow this business and haven't looked back.

I have helped and continue to help families Australia wide through my sleep support and I am continuing to work on having many different resources available to help families get sleep on track and promote how important and safe sleep support is.
